What measures can we as a society take to mitigate the effects of climate change on access to water in Seville?
Climathon is a global movement dedicated to solving climate challenges of cities across the world through open innovation. The second edition of Climathon Sevilla will be held in November 19 to 21 2021, in face-to-face format.
Sitting in the Guadalquivir river valley, Sevilla has thrived for millennia thanks to its privileged natural environment. However, heatwaves, droughts, floods and sea level rise caused by climate change threaten the city and its surroundings.
In this second edition of Climathon Sevilla we launch this problem to be solved that is related to preparing the urban water supply in the face of the challenges of climate change.
Climate change will mean changes in our daily lives, and one of the urban sectors that will be most impacted will be the water supply and sanitation service.
The climatic effects that will have the greatest impact on this process will be the increase in droughts and extreme rainfall with risks of flooding.
It is vitally important to contextualize the event within the framework of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), Agenda 2030 proposed by the United Nations;
SDG 6: Ensure the availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all people. Ensuring the supply of water in sufficient quantity and quality is essential for the development of society and for the fight against poverty and disease in any part of the world.
Are you bursting with ideas? Do you feel you have a voice in tackling climate change impacts in your city and community? If you’re open to meeting new people, building friendships, collaborating, and creating ideas that could tackle climate change in your community, Climathon is for you.
The event is open to the participation of companies, institutions, associations, students, innovators, researchers, entrepreneurs and also technicians and professionals.
